San Francisco, CA — August 8, 2016 — Okta, the leading provider of identity and device management for the cloud and mobile enterprise, today announced the appointment of Mark Settle as the company’s first chief information officer (CIO). Settle brings more than 25 years of experience driving IT transformations in large enterprises and is a seven-time CIO, including tenure at five Fortune 500 companies.
Settle will lead Okta’s global enterprise IT strategy and operations, and will collaborate closely with the executive leadership team to align strategic technology initiatives with broader business goals. With a focus on empowering people through technology, Settle will ensure Okta’s employees have streamlined access to the most important technologies and services to increase business efficiency.
“I’m thrilled that Mark is joining our team at Okta. His wealth of experience as a CIO and first-hand understanding of our customers uniquely positions Mark to lead our own IT strategy, while aligning with our aim to build a foundational company that securely connects people and technology,” said Okta co-founder and COO, Frederic Kerrest. “Mark will be a huge asset to our organization and our customers and I look forward to working with him as our company continues to grow.”
Settle most recently served as CIO at information services company IHS, where he evangelized the early adoption of cloud technologies to strengthen the company’s internal and external business processes. Prior to IHS, Settle was the CIO of BMC, Oxy, Arrow Electronics and Corporate Express, and served as executive vice president at VISA.
“Okta is the poster child for modern IT. The company was built in the cloud, employees have a high degree of self-sufficiency and are incredibly mobile, and technology is part of all functional areas of the business, so there’s a massive opportunity for IT to go beyond utility and provide real business value,” said Settle. “I look forward to supporting Okta’s team by scaling and integrating our fast growing systems in ways that can increase productivity and deliver strategic value to our business partners. And I look forward to working with Okta’s thousands of customers as they bring on technology to help them fulfill their missions faster and more securely than ever before.”
The addition of Settle to Okta’s executive team is only part of the positive momentum taking place within the company. For the third year in a row, Okta was named a leader in Gartner’s 2016 “Magic Quadrant for Identity and Access Management as a Service (IDaaS), Worldwide.” Additionally, the company recently expanded and opened a new office in Bellevue, WA. To cap off the summer, Okta will hold its annual customer conference, Oktane16, where thousands of IT leaders come to connect and discuss the future of cloud, identity and security. Speakers include Okta’s co-founders, as well as notable keynotes from Diane Greene of Google, Terry Wise of Amazon Web Services, Brian Krebs of KrebsonSecurity.com and Malcolm Gladwell of “Outliers” fame.
