The Senior Legal Manager will play a key role in growing Okta’s regional presence by supporting our Japan Sales, Professional Services, and Partner organizations in structuring and closing commercial agreements. This position will be based in Okta’s office in Tokyo.         

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, redline, and negotiate contractual terms with customers, including master subscription agreements, professional services agreements, nondisclosure agreements, partner / distributor agreements and other types of commercial agreements required in the APAC region.
  • Lead and support a broad range of legal and compliance matters, including government contracts, antitrust, marketing and promotions, intellectual property, trade compliance, and anti-corruption.
  • Advise sales teams on deal process and contract management
  • Understand product, data security, and privacy process issues to guide the sales team during negotiations, and in many other contexts
  • Help with standardization of documentation across multiple jurisdictions
  • Partner with deals strategy and revenue operations to support local end-to-end contract close process.
  • Provide strategic support to finance, revenue operations, sales operations, product teams, and other stakeholder teams to ensure agreements and go-to-market efforts are consistent with internal corporate policies and processes.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to sales and other internal business constituents in supporting our customer base to ensure continued customer success and satisfaction, while serving as a steward of Okta’s interest.
  • Handle a variety of ad-hoc projects across the department supporting business, legal, and strategic corporate initiatives in APAC, such as ongoing translation and localization efforts in region.
  • Champion Okta’s core values and serve as a cultural ambassador in the APAC region.
  • Provide general legal support across all areas of the business

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to be successful in the role:

  • 10+ years of experience in relevant tech sector in-house legal department with advanced knowledge in reviewing non-disclosure agreements, technology partner agreements, cloud-based subscription agreements, professional services agreements and accompanying statements of work
  • Understanding of cloud services, technology, channel, and professional services contracts
  • High-level negotiation and legal drafting skills
  • Proficiency in English and fluent in Japanese to communicate with local and regional teams, as well as, customer interactions
  • Excellent communicator with strong drafting skills in English and Japanese language
  • Highly responsive, accountable, detail orientated and service-focused attitude
  • Self-starter and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of internal clients
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition issues and working with revenue and sales operations teams
  • Sound and practical business judgment
