Corporate Counsel, Litigation

We are seeking a motivated litigator to join our growing Litigation team. This role will report to Okta’s Director of Litigation, and will support our commercial litigation and disputes matters, and help build and scale our litigation and disputes processes.

 

What you’ll be doing 

As Litigation Counsel, you will handle all aspects of global litigation and disputes matters across a wide range of issues and subjects, including by: 

    • Organizing and developing the relevant factual records;
    • Reviewing and revising pleadings, motions, written discovery, and correspondence;
    • Assisting with document preservation, collection, and review;
    • Assisting with interviewing witnesses and preparing witnesses for depositions; 
    • Supporting litigation-adjacent matters, including assessing and responding to subpoenas, informal requests for information, and bankruptcy notices;
    • Helping to manage outside counsel relationships, including staffing, litigation strategy, work product, day-to-day case activity, invoicing, and budgets;
    • Working closely with internal business partners across the organization to proactively address and resolve disputes while supporting business objectives;
    • Monitoring trends to identify areas of business process improvement;
    • Developing and driving scalable litigation and dispute-related processes and procedures;
    • Building and scaling Okta’s eDiscovery program, including developing and refining guidelines and processes; 
    • Tracking and reporting on status and outcomes of litigation and dispute matters; and
    • Supporting the broader Ethics & Compliance and Employment team on projects, as applicable.

 

What you’ll bring to the role

  • JD and good standing to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction;
  • 3+ years of litigation experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house, handling all aspects of civil litigation, including pre-litigation analysis and strategy, pleadings, fact and expert discovery, third-party discovery, and dispositive motions;
  • Deep knowledge of eDiscovery issues, including document retention, collection, review, and production;
  • Ability to provide practical, actionable advice while balancing risk and business reward;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to advocate for a position while maintaining an open-minded approach;
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, excellent problem-solving;
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities at once while staying organized, and to quickly adjust priorities to meet business needs;
  • Self-motivated, showing initiative and perseverance, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative approach; and
  • A sense of humor!

 

 

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$146,000$244,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $182,000$272,000 USD
