We are looking for an experienced technical manager to join our Business Technology team and help build a new function within the BT SRE team. The Site Reliability Engineering team is looking to expand its scope and global reach, providing observability, platform engineering, and system engineering capabilities for our corporate Okta ecosystem.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced SRE practitioner who has worked in multiple technical realms. They are a strong leader, use Agile to guide their team to success, and welcome the challenge of building in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. They enjoy seeing their team’s designs run at scale with automation, testing, and an excellent operational mindset. Most importantly, they are interested in bringing a culture of operational excellence and ownership while building a new team. Responsibilities
- Mentoring, managing, and leading a team of SRE’s with a broad range of expertise and experiences
- Be an advocate for SRE practices, especially observability practices, and be a leading voice in initiatives and projects to further advance BT’s SRE and security maturity
- Create and maintain Agile practices that provide transparency and clarity for engineers and key metrics for leadership stakeholders
- Help expand our BT SRE program and processes, recommending and implementing tooling and services, especially in the realms of observability, automation, and systems engineering
- Work closely with global partners in BT, Security, GTM, and Marketing to gather requirements and effectively implement solutions within the BT SRE organization
- Help align the team on solutions and be a thought leader within the team to ensure technical solutions are secure, scalable, and following industry best practices
- As part of on-call, identify incidents, manage escalations and incident communications, and lead blameless RCA processes to improve BT’s systems
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience managing SRE, Observability, or DevOps Platform Engineering teams
- Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to different audiences
- Proficient with Agile methodology especially being a product owner and running Scrum or Kanban practices for engineering teams
- Experience with reliability engineering concepts and security best practices on public cloud platforms, especially AWS
- Demonstrated ability to develop complex applications for cloud infrastructure at scale and deliver projects on schedule and within budget
- Familiarity with observability tools including Splunk, New Relic, Cloudwatch, Prometheus/Grafana
- Familiarity with web security and web security tooling, especially Cloudflare
- Experience with systems engineering practices, including fleet management, configuration management, OS patching and hardening, and performance monitoring
- Experience with automating systems and infrastructure via Terraform
- Experience with developing tooling and automation in Bash, Python, Go, etc.
- Proficient with Git and building CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Github Actions
- Familiar with Linux administration, containerization, Kubernetes (especially EKS), and networking concepts
