Okta + Workplace by Facebook: A Secure Future of Work
Today, at Oktane18, we’re pleased to announce a new partnership between Workplace and Okta that makes the connection between Workplace and an on-premises directory like Active Directory seamless. IT admins can easily provision and deprovision users from Workplace, enabling them to grant and revoke access to sensitive company communications (even if that means leveraging existing processes in AD). This helps ensure the appropriate level of access for users.
Today, the world’s most successful companies are utilizing cloud applications, platforms, and infrastructure to streamline their processes and reduce costs. While most organizations are on their journey to the cloud, many enterprises are not completely replacing their legacy infrastructure. In order to take advantage of the cloud, these companies need a way to bridge their core, on-premises systems (such as Microsoft’s Active Directory) to modern applications. After all, 95 percent of the Fortune 1000 use AD to manage employee authentication and access permissions. That’s why new, innovative solutions like Workplace by Facebook are looking for ways to make the connection between on-prem directories and their cloud offerings. Okta is here to help.
Workplace by Facebook was one of the fastest-growing applications in our recent Businesses @ Work report. If you’re not familiar with Workplace, it’s an environment that looks similar to the consumer Facebook, where employees can easily connect, communicate, and collaborate across their devices. Workplace makes it easier for employees to chat, video conference, and collaborate on important projects, deliverables, and documents.
Employees benefit as well: they can use their existing credentials – without having to create and remember new login information – to access Workplace from any device or location and single sign-on (SSO) from any browser. So put simply, enterprises that use Workplace will get the same identity and access management tools they’ve come to depend on from Okta.
We also want to make it even easier for organizations to find, test and get started on Workplace, which is why we’ve also taken our work with Workplace a step further. As an inaugural partner of Project Onramp – a new, industry-first initiative by Okta, IT can stand up a tenant of Workplace with one-click from the Okta catalog. You can learn more about Onramp here: https://www.okta.com/onramp
By providing joint customers like GoPro, Columbia Sportswear, Rodan + Fields, Made.com and Edelman with the ability to easily deploy Workplace to their entire organizations with the Okta Identity Cloud, more and more companies can usher in a secure future of work.
