We've Got the Magic: Gartner Names Okta a Leader in IDaaS

For those of you who have been in enterprise IT – either as a buyer or a vendor – you know that Gartner’s Magic Quadrant isn’t just another vendor evaluation matrix. When it comes to analyst organizations with deep market insight and significant influence, Gartner is always at the top of the heap.

In the past, Gartner’s identity management research has always focused on the way identity was traditionally delivered – as an on-premises software solution. So much so that cloud identity solutions like Okta were excluded from those reports because we didn’t have an on-premises version to sell customers.

Now all of that’s changed – and Okta looks pretty magical as a result. Gartner recently published its first Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) Magic Quadrant and named Okta a leader, highlighting our impressive execution and the completeness of our vision as reasons why.

This is much more than a badge for our website – the recognition is important for Okta for several reasons. First, the publication of a Magic Quadrant is an incredible validation that the cloud is the right place to be innovating to solve the identity problems of the modern enterprise. It also serves as recognition for all of the hard work that everyone at Okta, our thriving partner ecosystem and all our customers have been doing over the past five years to create the IDaaS market.

Our placement in the Leaders quadrant wouldn’t have been possible without our 1,000+ amazing customers, many of which we speak to daily and all of which push us forward – or the broad set of partners that integrate with Okta and build new businesses on our platform. After all, we don’t think of what we have built as just another piece of identity software. Okta is a network – the Enterprise Identity Network, more specifically – a network made up of all of these ISVs and SIs, thousands of their applications and millions of users.

Of course, the most important part of this announcement is what it signals for the future. We fundamentally believe that IDaaS is at the core of IT as it transitions to a cloud and mobile world. In our world – where applications are outside of the firewall, users are connecting to applications from multiple devices and businesses must more closely connect to their partners and customers – enterprises need an identity service like Okta to get business done. We’re the foundation upon which they can deliver amazing user experiences and provide new services that drive business growth, all in a secure and compliant manner.

Gartner’s recognition of IDaaS will only accelerate this transformation and open up a world of new opportunities for Okta, our customers, and our entire ecosystem of partners.
